William C. Adkins, 69

William C. Adkins, 69, 3129 Abbott Ave., Gilman, died Wednesday, January 6 at Friendship Manor Care Center in Grinnell.

Services will be at 10:30 a.m. Saturday at Estel-Perrin-Avey Funeral Home with the Rev. Neil R. Montz officiating. Burial will be in Rose Hill Memorial Gardens with flag folding ceremonies conducted by the VFW Harry C. Harter Post 30.

Friends may call at the funeral home after 6 p.m. Thursday. Memorials may be directed to the Gilman United Methodist Church.

Born February 12, 1923 in Marshall County, he was the son of James R. & Clara J. Ralls Adkins.

He graduated from Dunbar High School in 1940.

Mr. Adkins served with the 37th Chemical Company of the U.S. Army during World War II and served in the Philippines.

On November 3, 1946 at Altoona, he was married to Frances Haire and the couple had always resided in Marshall County and for the past 36 years in the Gilman area.

He was employed at Dunham-Bush, Inc. in the foundry for 30 years retiring in 1988. He was also the manager of the Dunham-Bush Employees Credit Union for nearly 30 years retiring from that position in June of 1992. He had also farmed for many years.

He was a member of the Gilman United Methodist Church where he served as the church treasurer, a member of the VFW Harry C. Harter Post #39, the Gilman American Legion, the Dunbar Alumni Association and a former member of Grinnell Twirlers Square Dance Club.

Surviving are his wife, Frances, 3 daughters and 2 sons, Joyce Arment, Montour; Kathleen (Mrs. Larry) Angove, Traverse City, Michigan; Patricia (Mrs. Carroll) Krough, Montour; Daniel J. Adkins, Horatio, Arkansas; Donald W. Adkins, Marshalltown; 8 grandchildren; 1 great grandson and 4 brothers and 3 sisters, Max Adkins, Mary (Mrs. Wayne) Elsberry and Raymond Adkins, all of Marshalltown; J. A. (Deb) Adkins, Lake of the Ozarks, Missouri; Jane Adeline (Mrs. Ted) Holthusen, Texas City, Texas; Tom Adkins and Joann (Mrs. A. E.) Wall, both of Marshalltown.

Preceding him in death were his parents and 2 sisters, Doris Cagwin and Gwen Wall.
