Agnes Louise (Grabenbauer) Brush was born on Saturday; July 29, 1916 in Marshalltown; Marshall County, Iowa. She was the daughter of: Joseph Sr. and Louise (Hoffman) Grabenbauer. She was the youngest of seven children. She attended St. Mary Catholic School. Her earliest memories of St. Mary's occurred while she sat on the back porch steps of the priests' house as her mother cooked dinner for the priest or laundered and pressed the altar cloths. She married Robert Brush on Nov. 8, 1936, in Hampton, Iowa. They always lived in Marshalltown, except for a short time in New York City during WW II while Bob taught at the Women's Naval Reserve Training Center at Hunter College in Bronx, N.Y. She and Robert were partners with Bob Hartman for 25 years, and owned and operated the Elbo Room tavern in Marshalltown. Agnes was a life-long member of St. Mary's Catholic Church, Marshalltown. She was an avid card player, an excellent cook, a dedicated fisher woman, flower gardener and accomplished seamstress. In much earlier years, she was a superb roller skater. She loved to dance. Agnes Louise (Grabenbauer) Brush, age 92, passed away on Saturday; November 15, 2008 at the Sunny Hill Care Center in Tama; Tama County, Iowa while under the care of Iowa River Hospice. Those left to mourn her passing are: Her two daughters: Linae Brush of Marshalltown, Iowa and Janet (Ron) Busch of Toledo; Tama County, Iowa. Her two granddaughters: Jennifer (Todd) Brown of Bedford; Taylor County, Iowa and Jamie Busch-Upah (Lonnie Upah) of Toledo, Iowa. Her great-granddaughter: Brycelyn of Toledo, Iowa. Her best friend: Mabel Ward, also several nieces and nephews. Preceding her in death were her husband: Bob, in 1998, also her parents, her brothers: Joe Jr., Fritz, Frank, George and Ray. Her sisters: Lillian Mueller, Rose Stanton Newlon and a host of friends. May they rest in peace. Visitation will be from: 5:00 p.m. until 8:00 p.m. on Thursday; November 20, 2008 at the funeral home. Funeral services will begin at: 11:00 a.m. on Friday; November 21, 2008 at Saint Mary Catholic Church in Marshalltown, Iowa. Interment will be at the Riverside Cemetery in Marshalltown, Iowa.
