Irving “Irv” McDonald, 95, of Marshalltown, died Sunday, May 11, 2008 at Southridge Nursing and Rehab Center under the care of Iowa Hospice. Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Thursday, May 15, 2008, at Mitchell Family Funeral Home with Fr. Don Czapla officiating. He will be laid to rest in the Riverside Cemetery beside his wife, Bella, and son, William. Visitation will be held from 5:00 p.m. to 7:00 p.m. on Wednesday at the funeral home. Memorials in "Irv's" name may be directed to Iowa Hospice. For condolences, please visit the funeral home's website. Born Irving W. McDonald on September 30, 1912 in Lake Park, Iowa, he was the son of Frank and Orra (Jones) McDonald. He graduated from Milford High School in 1930. On August 30, 1935, he married Bella Morton in Spirit Lake, IA. Irv was a PGA golf professional, his entire life presiding at such golf courses as Sheldon, Iowa, Webster City, Iowa, and Fort Dodge, Iowa, before coming to the American Legion Golf Course in Marshalltown in 1956. There, he helped finish building the first 9 holes and later built the second 9 holes before retiring in 1976, where he maintained an honorary lifetime membership. Irv was a member of the Elks and St. Henry’s Catholic Church. His loves were fishing, bowling, and golf. Left to remember Irv are his daughter, Sharon (Jerry) Mohon of Marshalltown; his grandchildren, Michelle (Randy) DuToit, Christopher Leise, and John (Barbara) Leise III, all of Altoona, and Lissa Mohon, Cedar Falls; five great-grandchildren; and his sister, Cecelia, of Sioux City. Irv was preceded in death by his wife, Bella, a son, William, two brothers, and one sister.
