Gary E. “Grandpa” Ruse, 68, of Marshalltown, died early Wednesday morning, February 13th, at the Grandview Heights Nursing Home while in their care, the Iowa River Hospice and his loving family. Memorial services will be held at 7:00 p.m. Saturday, February 16th, at the Mitchell Family Funeral Home with Pastor Greg Ellcey officiating. There will be no visitation. The Mitchell Family Funeral Home is caring for Gary and his family. Ph 844-1234. Born on May 11th, 1939, in Humboldt, Iowa, he was the son of Edward and Betty (Gunderson) Ruse. He graduated from the Humboldt High School’s Class of 1957. Gary had great pride in serving our country honorably in the United States Army. On October 2, 1971, in LeGrand, he was united in marriage to Betty Smuck. They made their home in Marshalltown where he was employed at Lennox, Gra-Iron and the IVH for 7 years. He enjoyed the outdoors, golf, fishing, hunting, children and his family. Left to celebrate his life are his loving wife of 36 years, Betty, children: Michelle (Eric) Rodemeyer of Marshalltown, Brad (Skye) Ruse of Marshalltown, his children from a former marriage Sandra, Gary, Jr., Donny and Sean, his grandchildren Nathan, Cody, Breanna and Beau, his siblings: Roger Ruse of Duluth, MN, Mike Ruse of Temecula, CA., Michelle Ruse of Charlotte, NC, Monte Dean and Esther Dean. In death he has rejoined his parents, brother Allen, grandpa Harry, grandma Merle and step-mother Mary Barker.
