Roy Winters Deat at 73, Rites Friday

Ray W. Winters, 73,of 1114 W Church Street died in Community Hospital East, Tuesday, where he had been a patient since March 18. He had been in failing health for two years.

Born March 25, 1897, in Marshall County, he was the son of Frank and Elizabeth Mills Winters. He received his education in Marshall County and marshalltown schools.

During World War I he served in the Army as a private with the Quartermaster Corp from Sept 8, 1919 to Jan 10, 1919.

On March 4, 1921, at Toledo, he was married to Marcenia Brown and they had always lived in this city. Mr. Winters was a painter by trade.

Preceding him in death were two children in infancy, a grandson, and two brothers.

Mr. Winters was a member of the First Friends Church.

Surviving are the widow and nine children, Jerry Winters and Mrs Dale (Carol) Adams, both of Marshalltown; Mrs Ed (Betty) Tompkins of Indianola. Mrs. Raymond (Donna) Sloat of Gilman, Mrs Charles (Phylis) Yocum of Zering, Mrs. Don (Shirlee) Raper of Dallas, Texas, Raelind Winters of Anniston, Alabama, Charles Winter of Phoenix, Ariz., and Raymond Winters of Kentycky. Also survig were 27 grandchildren, three great-grandchildren, a sister and three brothers, Mrs. Pearl Miller of Collinsville, Ill., Bert Winters of Council Bluffs, Lyle of Vallejo, Calif., and E. L. Winters of Marshalltown.

Services will be from the Frist Friends Church at 2 pm Friday with the Rev. Francis Ross, pastor, in charge. Burial will be in Riverside Cemetery with military honors by Frank Lewis Glick Post No 46 Americn Legion. Friends may call at Estel-Perrin Funeral Home from Thursday noon unil 9:30 a.m. Friday. Memorial may be directed to he American Cancer Society.
