Helen Marie Bryngelson Marks passed away January 12,2008 at the Marshalltown Medical and Surgical Center. She was 102 years old. Helen was born January 22, 1905 in Brewster, Minnesota to Henry S. and Amelia (Norland) Bryngelson. Helen lived in California for a large number of years and then returned to Marshalltown,Iowa to be close to her brother and sister. She resided at the Embers for 16 years and more recently at the Villa del Sol Nursing Home. Helen was a very active woman, whether she was working, entertaining socially, playing Bridge, or volunteering her time to help a cause. She worked many years in the retail business which included Bullocks and Marshall Fields. Her volunteer work was her other great pride in life. She volunteered for many years at the Red Cross, was an enemy plane spotter during WWII, led Girl Scouts for a time, and traveled the world quite extensively. She gained tremendously from life and enjoyed it all very much. Helen maintained a good life, and always tried to help others, as well. She was considerate and warm-hearted, very generous and caring. She will be missed very much by all that knew her. She is survived by a brother, Cyrus Bryngelson of the Iowa Veterans Home in Marshalltown, daughter in law Linda Marks , three grandchildren - Judy, Sandy and William Marks and great granddaughter, Janelle Marks, all of Loomis, CA., nieces Clarice (Wes) Roseland, rural Marshalltown, Sally Yankee of Virginia and nephew Gordon (Linda) Marks, Florida as well as several great nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her husband of 41 years, William Max Marks, her parents, her son Marvin, sister in law, Eleanor Bryngelson, brother in law and sister, Clarence and Mabel Carlson, and nephew, Don Carlson. Following cremation, family graveside rites will be held at Stavanger Cemetery, south of LeGrand, at a later date.
