Murray Kamerick, son of John and Muriel Sytsma Kamerick, was born April 2, 1925, in Pella, Iowa. He passed away Wednesday, November 2, 2011, at the Hospice of Pella Comfort House at the age of eighty-six.
Murray received his early education at a country school near his home.
On October 11, 1944, Murray was united in marriage with Letha Alexander in Pella. To this union four children were born: Ronald, Connie, Sue, and Patricia. Murray and Letha started their married life in Oskaloosa while Murray worked in the coal mine. Later he worked at the Hormel Plant in Ottumwa, farmed with his father, and then operated Pella Sand and Gravel near Pella.
Leading a hardworking, simple life on the farm with family was his life. He enjoyed planting, harvesting, and checking his crops, going to the river to watch nature, and walks on the sand bar searching for rocks.
Those left to cherish his memory are his wife Letha; three daughters: Connie Lee Tollion of Des Moines, Sue Swank of Pella, and Patricia Unruh of Branson, Missouri; nine grandchildren; twelve great- grandchildren; brother: Golmore Kamerick and his wife, Gladys, of Dallas, Iowa; sister, Edith Van Wyk of Grinnell; and brother-in-law, Hans De Vries of Des Moines.
Preceding him in death was: his parents; son, Ronald Gene; brothers, Don and his wife Viola, Arnold and his wife Beverly; sister, Mary Lou De Vries; and brother-in-law, Dave Van Wyk.
Funeral services were held Saturday, November 5, 2011, at the Garden Chapel Funeral Home. Burial took place at the Portergrove Cemetery near Pella.
