Collins, Virginia Sue Viers - 1944-2011

Virginia Sue (Viers) Collins went to be with the Lord December 1st, 2011 at the age of 67 peacefully at her home surrounded by her family. Virginia was born on July 7, 1944 in Knoxville, Iowa at the Collins Hospital.
She was the first of six children born to Jack W. Viers and Alberta Mae (Caulkins) Viers.
Her siblings include brother Roger (Lana) Viers of Nathrop, Colorado; sister Barbara (Don) Mosher of Meridan, Kansas; sister Jacqueline (Steve) Clark of Hartford, Iowa; sister Nancy (Larry) Futrelle of Palmyra, Iowa; brother Jack "Buddy" (Rhonda) Viers of Swan, Iowa.
She attended Pleasantville Community School through second grade before her family moved to Salt Lake City, Utah where they lived for six years. While living in Salt Lake, Virginia was baptized April 16, 1956 at the age of 11. Her family returned to Pleasantville in 1958 where she met the love of her life, Herb Collins. She graduated in 1962 from Pleasantville High School. On August 5, 1962 she married Herb of Swan, Iowa at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa and would have celebrated their 50th wedding anniversary next year. After they married, Herb and Virginia lived in Hartford, Iowa from 1962-1968. In 1968, they moved to Swan where they have resided on a farm since. Herb and Virginia were blessed with five children and 14 grandchildren.
Those left to honor her memory include her husband, Herb of Swan, Iowa; father Jack W. Viers of Swan, Iowa; three beloved sons: Monty (Renee) Keisha, Trisha, and Ross Collins of Pleasantville, Iowa; Mark (Teri) Logan and Kassadi Collins of Swan, Iowa; Maris (Kimberly) Levi, Riley, Katelynn, and Gracie Collins of Knoxville, Iowa; two precious daughters: Kandi Collins, Lacee and Alyssa Zickel of Knoxville, Iowa; Kristi (Daniel) Kolten, Karsen, and Kyra Kamerick of Harvey, Iowa; and many other family members including aunts, uncles, nieces, nephews, and friends.
Virginia enjoyed being a homemaker, raising a huge vegetable garden, baking, cooking, and tending to her flower gardens. From 1977 to 2002 she worked as city clerk for Swan. In 1985, she began driving a school bus for Pleasantville Community Schools for 12 years. She also worked part-time for Dr. H.M. Perryman at the Pleasantville Clinic and the Marion County News.
She is preceded in death by her mother, Alberta Viers and sister, Jacqueline Clark.
Visitation will be Sunday December 4, at 10 a.m. at the Mason Funeral Home in Pleasantville, Iowa; with family being present from 2 to 4 p.m. Private graveside services will be held at the Swan Cemetery for immediate family with Pastors Timothy and Dennis Platt officiating.
The family asks that in lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Virginia's name to the City of Swan Veterans War Memorial.
