Raymond J. Brand
September 4, 1915 ~ March 7, 2012 (age 96) 96 Years Old

Raymond Jacob Brand was born on September 4, 1915 to Ira and Sarah Lautenbach Brand near Sully, Iowa. He graduated from Sully High School in 1932. On April 18, 1945 Raymond was united in marriage with Harriet Evelyn Stek. They were blessed with five children: Joyce, Carolyn, Ivan, Gordon, and Mary. Raymond farmed all of his working life. He and Harriet operated a dairy farm west of Lacey, Iowa for thirty-one years, retiring December 4, 1980. After retiring he enjoyed traveling, woodworking, and reading, but most of all, he enjoyed visits from his family. He was able to live in his own home until shortly before his death on Wednesday, March 7, 2012.

Raymond was a member of the Bethel Christian Reformed Church in Oskaloosa, where he served several terms as an elder and deacon. After moving to Pella he became a member of the First Christian Reformed Church and later a charter member of the Covenant Reformed Church.

Raymond committed his life to the Lord at a young age and never wavered. He was wise, gentle, kind, slow to anger, patient, honest, loving, and generous, always looking out for the interests of others. His life was truly a blessing and an inspiration to his children and indeed to all who knew him.

Preceding him in death were: his parents, Ira and Sarah Brand; sisters, Irene (Ernest) Graham and Vera (Bill) Vos; brother, Carroll Brand; parents-in-law, William and Gertie Stek; brothers-in-law, Gordon Stek, Edward Van Gilst and John H. Stek.

Those left to cherish his memory are his beloved wife of almost sixty-seven years, Harriet; his five children and their spouses; twenty-one grandchildren; twenty-six great-grandchildren; and sisters-in-law, Patricia Brand, Clarissa Rozenboom and her husband Gerald, Kathryn Van Gilst, and Nadine Stek.
