Walter Arie Kamerick, age 85, of rural Albia, Iowa died late Tuesday night, August 23, 2005 at the Monroe Care Center in Albia. He was born January 10, 1920 in Pella, Iowa to Martenis Govert and Evedena (Schut) Kamerick. He married Billie Inez (Baumgarner) Smith on June 10, 1947 in Pella, Iowa. She passed away April 30, 2003.

Walter was a farmer all his life in Monroe and Marion Counties, until his retirement. He was a member of the First Christian Church in Albia.

He is survived by four sons: Thomas Kamerick of Warsaw, Missouri, Edwin Kamerick and wife Jane of Melrose, Walter Kamerick, Jr. and wife Kathy of Ottumwa, and William Kamerick of Albia; two step daughters, Dee and son-in-law Ray Van Dyk of Pella and Karen K. Moon of Albia; 6 grandchildren, 3 great grandchildren, 8 step grandchildren, 10 step-great grandchildren, and 1 step great great grandchild. Walter is also survived by one brother, Martenis Kamerick of Chillicothe, IA, and three sisters, Bertha Mathes of Chariton, Muriel Goemaat of Knoxville, and Jennie Bogaards of Pella.

Walter was preceded in death by his parents; his wife, Billie; one step son, Chester Lee Smith; one brother, John Kamerick; and three sisters: Henrietta Mathes, Effie DeWit, and Marie Langstraat.

Funeral services were held at 10 a.m. Friday, August 26, 2005 at the First Christian Church in Albia with Rev. Lynda Carlson officiated. A luncheon followed the service at the First Christian Church in Albia. Internment wasat 1:30 p.m. Friday in the Oakwood Cemetery in Pella.

Casket bearers were David Kamerick, Justin Kamerick, Aaron Kamerick, Josh Hawk, Jennifer Cronkhite, Elizabeth Kamerick, and Michael Ballard.

Memorial may be made to Monroe County Public Health Department.
