Betty Louise Gass was born on Dec. 3, 1926, in Pleasantville, to Charles Galvin and Ethel Marie (Neal) Galvin.

She was raised in Pleasantville and graduated from Pleasantville High School. Following high school, Betty attended A.I.B. in Des Moines. On Jan. 27, 1951, she married Dwight William Gass in Melcher. The couple made their home on a farm near Melcher. Betty and Dwight lived on their farm until moving to Knoxville in 1977.
