PELLA - Edna Tysseling, 99, of Pella, died Friday, March 9, in the Long Term Care Unit of Pella Regional Health Center in Pella.
Her funeral service was held this morning at De Jong Chapel, First Reformed Church, Pella, the Rev. Kenneth A. Dykstra officiating. Burial: Oakwood Cemetery, Pella. Memorials: Christian Opportunity Center, Pella. Van Dyk-Duven Funeral Home in Pella is in charge of arrangements.
Egjie Van Zante was born July 5, 1901, on a farm northwest of Pella, to Gysbert and Adrijana (Jennie or Jane) Van Houweling Van Zante. She went to live with her paternal grandparents, Dieles and Egjie Van Houweling Van Zante to be cared for in illness; she lived there until age 15, and attended Valley Country Grade School near Pella.
On Feb. 25, 1925, she married Albert G. Tysseling at her parents' home. They lived on a farm east of Pella until 1961, when they moved into Pella. Edna was a homemaker and cared for various members of her family while providing them a place to live.
Edna and Albert moved to Hilltop Manor South in 1987. Albert moved to Pella Community Nursing Home, where he died Dec. 24, 1993. Edna continued living at Hilltop until moving to the Long Term Care Unit at Pella Regional Health Center in 1995.
She was a lifelong member of First Reformed Church in Pella, where she had been a member of the Ladies Aid for many years and enjoyed working at ice cream socials. She had been active with the ladies' Farm Bureau. Edna and Albert enjoyed traveling; she also enjoyed needlework.
She is survived by three children and spouses: Ruth and John Vander Hart of Pella, Orville and Judy Tysseling of Dayton, Ohio, and Carl and Mary Tysseling of Pella; 10 grandchildren; and 17 great-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband; a grandson, Peter Mark Tysseling; her parents; three brothers and a sister: Delis Van Zante, Albert G. Van Zante, the Rev. Anthony G. Van Zante and Anna De Geus.
