PELLA - Bessie Roose, 95, of Pella, died Monday, Aug. 6, at Griffin Nursing Center in Knoxville.

Her funeral service will be 10:30 a.m. Thursday at Garden Chapel Funeral Home in Pella. Burial: Evergreen Cemetery in Leighton. Visiting hours begin 9 a.m. Wednesday at Pella Garden Chapel Funeral Home, with family present 6:30-8 p.m. Wednesday. Memorials: Hospice of Pella or Pregnancy Care Center.

Bessie Van Hall was born July 10, 1906, in Jasper County near Sully, to William and Bertha Van Elst Van Hall. She lived most of her life in the Pella and Leighton areas.

On Aug. 1, 1935, she married Gerrit Roose in Leighton. She was a homemaker, and a member of Second Reformed Church in Pella.

She is survived by her husband, Gerrit; three sons and daughters-in-law: Wilford and Irene Roose of Pella, Gerald and Judy Roose of Pella, and Larry and Twyla Roose of Pella; a daughter, Berdene Norton of San Diego, Calif.; 10 grandchildren; and 15 great-grandchildren.

She was preceded in death by her parents; five brothers: Gerrit, Dick, John, William and Everett Van Hall; four sisters: Cora Van Maanen, Hattie Schimmel and infants Hattie and Marie Van Hall; and two sons-in-law: Vernie Maricle and Curtis Norton.
