Elizabeth Marie Overbergen, 92, of Oskaloosa, died Tuesday, Oct. 30, at Mahaska Hospital.
A private family service will be held Saturday at Garland-VanArkel-Langkamp Funeral Chapel in Oskaloosa, the Rev. Don DeGlopper of Central Reformed Church officiating. Burial: Forest Cemetery. Visiting hours begin 9 a.m. Friday at the funeral chapel, with family present 6-8 p.m. Memorials: Central Reformed Church Youth Center.
Elizabeth was born Feb. 13, 1909, to Evert Van Zante and Tunjie Dusseldorf in Sully. The family moved to Pella, where she attended North Porterville Country School and Pella High School. After graduation she taught in a Pella rural school.
On Aug. 11, 1928, she married William Overbergen in Leighton. They lived in rural Leighton for a short time before moving to the Overbergen family farm west of Oskaloosa. In 1955, she and Bill retired and moved to a home nearby. She loved to read and spend time with her children and grandchildren.
She is survived by two sons and daughters-in-law: James E. and Marsha Overbergen and Ted L. and Connie Overbergen, all of Oskaloosa; seven grandchildren and spouses: Bill Overbergen of Leighton, Tom and Debbie Overbergen of Pella, Jon and Janet Overbergen of Leighton, Mike and Tracy Overbergen of Oskaloosa, Victoria and Jack O'Brien of Dallas, Texas, Sheri and Philip Waterman of Jacksonville, Fla., and Todd and Rhonda Overbergen of Houston, Texas; 15 great-grandchildren; a great-grandchild; and a sister, Tillie Husson of Rock Island, Ill.
She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Bill on July 16, 1985; two brothers: Anthony Van Zante and a brother in infancy; and two sisters: Margaret Gosselink and Mabel Bogaard.
