PELLA - Jean H. Thomassen, 73, of Pella, died Sunday, Jan. 27, at Pella Manor.

Her memorial service will be 1:30 p.m. Thursday at the Second Reformed Church in Pella, the Revs. Sophie and Steve Mathonnet-Vander Well officiating. Committal at Oakwood Cemetery in Pella will precede the memorial service. Memorials: Carnegie-Viersen Public Library or Hospice of Pella. Visiting hours begin Tuesday evening and continue Wednesday at Van Dyk-Duven Funeral Home in Pella, where the family will greet visitors 6:30-8 p.m. Wednesday.

Jean Helen Woolley was born Aug. 4, 1928, in Mount Clemens, a suburb of Detroit, Mich., to Roy Emerson and Helen Irene (Allison) Woolley. Most of her formal education was in Michigan, except one year in Ontario, Canada; she graduated from Mount Clemens High School. She then enrolled in nursing training in New York.

On July 3, 1953, she married Jack Thomassen in Mount Clemens. They moved to Pella, where their four children were born. Jean was a devoted homemaker, and worked as a bookkeeper for the ration board, the Air Force Exchange Service. When they lived in Tucson, Ariz., she was a secretary for a Cadillac/Oldsmobile dealer.

She joined Second Reformed Church in Pella in 1956, and was church treasurer for 23 years, retiring in 1997. She was an active volunteer for various organizations, and was a member of T.T.T. and P.E.O. Chapter BU. In 2001 she was diagnosed with pancreatic cancer. She enjoyed knitting, traveling, playing cards and reading.

She is survived by her husband, Jack; four children and spouses: Paul S. Thomassen of Pella, Donald M. Thomassen of Coventry, R.I., Carol L. and Gene Williamson of Pella and Eric J. and Deanna Thomassen of Ashland, Mo.; seven grandchildren: Michelle L. Thomassen, Katie J., Richard H. and Anne L. Williamson, and Alissa B., Kayla B. and Jared A. Thomassen; two brothers and sisters-in-law: Gordon W. and Mary Morgan of Portland, Ore., and John E. and Donna Woolley of Mount Clemens, Mich.

She was preceded in death by her parents.
