Florence Della Brown, daughter of Jonathan and Elizabeth Crawford Brown, was born at Washington, Iowa, Dec. 25, 1862, and died at the Soldiers’ Hospital at Marshalltown, July 8, 1936, at midnight, age 73 years, 6 months and 13 days.
When a small child she moved with her parents to Otley, where she resided until her marriage to James Larew on May 4, 1882. They began housekeeping on their farm near Durham.
To this union were born three children – Mrs. Daisy Bennett of Harris, Kan., Walter Larew of Warren, Ohio, and Mrs. Blanche Roorda of Harvey, Iowa.
The husband and father passed away Jan. 12, 1909. She continued to reside at the old home until June, 1930, when she moved to Harvey. In March, 1932, she was stricken with paralysis and taken to the home of her daughter, Blanche, where she was tenderly card for, until her condition demanded hospital care, when she was removed to the Soldiers’ Hospital at Marshalltown, where the remaining days of her life was spent.
She was converted during her early married life and united with the Harvey Baptist church. She was a good woman, devoted to her home and family, always ready to lend a helping hand in time of sickness or death among her neighbors or any one in need.
She leaves to mourn her passing, besides her children, two sisters, Mrs. May Lancaster, Harvey; and Mrs. Minnie Winslow, of Des Moines; six grandchildren and one great grandchild, and a host of relatives and friends.
Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon at 2 o’clock from the Harvey M.E. church, conducted by Rev. S.P. Trostle of Attica, assisted by Rev. Holliday. Burial was not made until Sunday at 1 ‘clock, due to some friends who did not arrive. Interment at Eureka cemetery.
