Life Story of Mrs. Worth Gregory
Mrs. Worth C Gregory, nee Sylvia Whaley, was born July 6, 1879 and died at the Lutheran Hospital in Hampton, June 19, 1953. She was the daughter of Ellen and John Whaley who lived east of Knoxville on a farm at that time.
On Dec. 2, 1896, she was married to Worth C. Gregory of Knoxville. They lived on a farm at the northeast corner of Knoxville for many years. Later they retired and moved to Knoxville and later to Des Moines. Two boys were born to this union, James T. and Harold W.
Mr. Gregory died August 29, 1952. Mrs. Gregory was a faithful member of the First Presbyterian church in Knoxville. She belonged to Pythian Sisters and Rebekah lodges.
About 12 years ago she returned to Knoxville, and took care of her invalid mother for eight years. When she became ill, she went to live with James at Shell Rock and later Hampton. Almost two years ago she had a stroke and hasn’t been well since. Preceding her in death were her husband and her sister, Mrs. Hattie Kamerick.
Surviving are her aged mother, Mrs. Ellen Whaley; two brothers, John Whaley of Knoxville, and Floyd Whaley of Milwaukee, Wis.; two sons, Harold and his wife of Tama; James and his wife of Hampton; four grandchildren, Wanda May of Tama; Richard of Hampton; James T. of Des Moines and Mrs. Lee Davis of Lincoln, Nebr.; one great-granddaughter, Leanne Davis, also of Lincoln, Neb.
Services were held in First Presbyterian church, Monday, June 22, at 2 p.m. The Rev. Roger O. Braaten officiated. Burial was in Graceland cemetery.
