Death Calls Mrs. J. B. Vriezelaar
Prominent Woman Of This Community Died Monday, December 26th
Mrs. Jas B. Vriezelaar who for many years resided at Otley, and who has been making her home in this city for the past few years, died in this city last Monday, December 26th at the age of 76 years, 7 months and 26 days.
Mattie DeReus Vriezelaar was born April 28th, 1860 in Marion county, Iowa. She was united in marriage to Jas. B. Vriezelaar May 10, 1882. To this union were born ten children, two having preceded her in death while yet of tender age. Her husband preceded her in death on January 4, 1919.
Surviving her are eight children, Gradus J. Vriezelaar, of Otley, Ia., Ira G. Vriezelaar of this city, Wm. A. Vriezelaar, Mrs. Margaret Vanden Baard of Otley; Mrs. Mamie Kaldenburg of Monroe, Henry Vriezelaar of Knoxville; Jas. Vriezelaar of Altoona, Ia., and Mrs. Martha Van Gorp of Knoxville. Besides her children, she leaves 24 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren, six brothers and 2 sisters.
She was a woman of great natural ability and was noted for her kindness of heart, always being ready to minister to those surrounding her in the community in which she lived and among her great circle of neighbors and friends.
The funeral services were conducted from the home Wednesday afternoon at 1:30.
