Funeral services for John Edward Van Maanen, 78, of Pella were held July 10 at the Second Christian Reformed Church in Pella, the Pastor Ken Schepel officiating. Music was provided by organist Betty Huyser. Interment was at Black Oak Cemetery east of Pella.

Casket bearers were Gilbert Van Maanen, Harold Van Maanen, William Van Maanen, Carl Van Donselaar, Travis Strunk and Dean Vander Wilt. Honorary casket bearer was Gilbert Van Donselaar.

John Edward Van Maanen, the son of Gilbert and Cora (Van Hal) Van Maanen, was born July 29, 1923 on the farm near Oskaloosa, Iowa.

On February 27, 1946, he was united in marriage with Mildred Irene Van Donselaar on the farm near Leighton.

John was a farmer until 1979. John than went to work for the Pella Lumberyard until his retirement in 1985.

John was a member of the Second Christian Reformed Church in Pella.

He is survived by his wife, Mildred Irene (Van Donselaar) Van Maanen; one son, Gilbert Van Maanen of rural Pella; three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren; two brothers and their wives: William and Laurine Van Maanen and Harold and Marie Van Maanen all of Pella; and a sister, Tillie Slings of Pella.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Gilbert and Cora (Van Hal) Van Maanen; a sister, Bertha Slings; two brothers-in-law, John Slings and Martin Vos; and a sister-in-law, Luella Van Maanen.

Arrangements were handled by Garden Chapel Funeral Home in Pella. Memorials may be made to Hospice of Pella.
