Norma Jean Gasper, 79, of Newton passed away Wednesday, July 24, 2002 at the Careage of Newton from respitory failure. Burial will be at a later date at the Oakwood Cemetery in Pella.

Jean was born July 4,1923 in Pella, Ia. She was the daughter of Edward B. and Grace Leuty Schreiner. She graduated from Pella High School and attended Central College.

She married Wayne Lee Gasper on June 23, 1943 in Chorpus Christi, Texas. She lived in Pella from 1923 to 1943, in Pullman, Wash. for 2 years, Baxter for 8 years and moved to Newton in 1956.

Jean was very active in gardening. She stayed at home and was close with her family. The big Holiday Dinners for the family were her favorite times. She enjoyed family trips, many of which were to Yellowstone National Park. She also enjoyed bird watching.

She is survived by one daughter: Lee Gasper-Galvin of Shenandoah, Ia.; two granddaughters and one grandson; one sister, Patsy Sadler of Pella, and one brother, Leuty Schreiner of Pella.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband, Wayne Gasper; one daughter, Sharon Gasper; one son, Eric Gasper; and one brother, Warren Schreiner.

Arrangements were handled by Reese Funeral Home in Newton.
