Memorial services for Kenneth Dean Barnes, 69, of Knoxville, were held November 6 at the Evans-McCleery Funeral Home in Knoxville, the Pastor Charles McMillian officiated. A private burial of cremains was at the Woodlawn Cemetery in Lovilia.

Kenneth was born on August 9, 1933 in Lovilia, the son of Fred and Daisy Richmond Barnes. He attended school in Newton and Knoxville.

He lived most of his life in Knoxville and retired in 1998 with over 30 years as a machinist for Van Gorp Corporation in Pella. He also was currently working for DeVore Chevrolet in Knoxville on a part time basis. Kenneth enjoyed watching sprint car races, driving trucks, and, especially eating out at Mr. C's and Tasos' Restaurants. Kenneth passed away on March 30, 2002 at his home at the age of 69 years, two months and 21 days.

He is survived by one son, Rod of Sanibel, Fla.; two daughters: Rhonda Berhow and her husband, Mike of Naples. Fla. and Debbie Barnes of Des Moines; one step-daughter, Karen Stanley of Knoxville; two sisters: Lucille Fortune of Newton and Wilma Henderson of Phoenix, Ariz.; and two grandchildren: Jake Berhow and Emmy Lou Barnes; many nieces and nephews; and many other relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents; and one brother, Homer.

Arrangements were handled by the Evans-McCleery Funeral Home in Knoxville.

Memorials may be made to the National Sprint Car Hall of Fame and Museum.
