Funeral services for Gordon Walter Van Der Hart, 84, of Pella were held March 17 at Berean Baptist Church in Pella, Pastors Mike Craighead and Ron Van Der Hart officiating. Music was provided by organist Rita Burghart and soloist Shawn Van Der Hart.

Interment was at Oakwood Cemetery in Pella. Casket bearers were Steve Van Der Hart, Michael Barr, Tim Reid, Scott Van Der Hart, Shawn Van Der Hart, and Matthew Fredrick. Honorary casket bearers were Stan Schuring, Gene Newman, and Andrew Fredrick.

Gordon Walter Van Der Hart, the son of Marinus and Martha (Pothoven) Van Der Hart, was born November 16, 1918 in Peoria. Gordon lived in Peoria until he was nineteen years old.

On September 24, 1940, Gordon was united in marriage with Johanna Van Der Voort in Pella. To this union, two children were born: Ron and Susan. The family made their home in Pella.

Gordon served with the United States Navy during World War II. He worked for JB Dahm construction for twenty-five years. Later he owned and operated Midwest Sanitation. Gordon was a ember of the Berean Baptist Church of Pella and served as Sunday School Superintendent. He was also a member of Van Veen - Van Hemert American Legion Post #89 in Pella. Gordon passed away on Monday, March 17, 2003, at the Pella Regional Health Center - Long Term Care Unit.

Gordon is survived by his wife, Johanna Van Der Hart of Pella; a son and his wife, Pastor Ron and Donna Van Der Hart of Runnells; a daughter and her husband, Susan and Dr. Mark Fredrick of Loham, Mo.; eight grandchildren; sixteen great-grandchildren; a brother Arnold Van Der Hart of Grand Rapids, Mich.; and a sister, Lillian Kuiper of Grand rapids.

He was preceded in death by his parents and two brother, Jacob and Gilbert.

Memorials may be made to Berean Baptist Church Organ Fund.

Arrangements were handled by the Garden Chapel Funeral Home in Pella.
