OBITUARY FOR ELMER BENNETT From Knoxville Journal-Express, Knoxville, Iowa

Services for Elmer Lloyd Bennett, 513 W. Washington, Knoxville who died July 22, 1979 at Mercy Hospital, Des Moines, following a three week illness, were held July 24, 1979 at Williams Funeral Home.(Knoxville. Iowa)

The Rev. Charles Martine officiated at the services with interment in Silent City Cemetery, Monroe. (Iowa)

Military honors were presented by the American Legion Post, Fred Slayden NO. 363, Monroe.

Pallbearers were Clarence Evans, Harold Gilliand, Cecil Shewman, Bill Systma, Ralph Zeck and Dale Vroegh.

Anna Oscarson served as organist.

Mr. Bennett was born May 9, 1913 near Monroe, the son of Eli and Ella Slocum Bennett. He spent his childhood in the Marion County area, where he loved to hunt and fish.

On March 23, 1942 he entered the United States Army. He served in Normandy, Northern France, Ardennes, Rhineland and Central Europe. He was awarded the Middle Eastern Theater Ribbon W_1 Silver Battle Star, Good Conduct Medal, Purple Heart Medal, Bronze Arrowhead Medal, three overseas Service Bars and one service stripe. He was wounded in action in France in 1944.

He married Ada Grace Carter on August 25, 1946 at Forty Des Moines.

Mr. Bennett worked in construction for several years and was employed at a local Firestone Store. He later retired from the Rolscreen Co., in Pella.

Survivors include his wife, Ada; sons, Donald and Harold; two brothers Roy of Rock Valley and Loren of Williamson and three grandchildren.
