James Walter Carr was born on September 7, 1933 in Colby, Wisconsin the son of John Henry Carr and Marianne Alberta (George) Carr.
He was raised in Des Moines and worked for the Butternut Bakery as a young man. After his brother Paul died in the Korean War, he enlisted in the United States Air Force in 1952. Jim proudly served his country for 20 years, before retiring in 1972.
He lived in Pleasantville from 1972 to 1977 and then moved to Oklahoma City where he resided until he passed away at his home on March 25, 2002 at the age of 68 years, 6 months and 18 days.
He was preceded in death by his parents and 2 brothers, Paul Eugene Carr and Donald Gilbert Carr, Sr.
He is survived by 2 sons, James W Carr Jr. of Omaha, Nebraska and Steven Carr of Glenwood, Iowa, a daughter Linda Lou Carr LeDoux of Princeton, Lousiana; 3 grandchildren: Dawn Brayton, Tina Brittnel and Jennifer Ritter; and 5 great grandchildren: Steven Parks, Jerry Parks, Justin Ritter, Savanna Brittnel and Haylee Ritter. Survivors also include 3 brothers: Robert Carr and wife Jana of Newalla, Oklahoma, Peter Carr of Des Moines, Iowa, John (Jack) Carr, Jr. of Carlisle, Iowa, 2 sisters: Elizabeth (Betty) Rothfus and husband Leroy of Pleasantville, Iowa, Jean Schroeder, of Warrenton, Missouri; sister-in-law, Beverly Carr of Newalla, Oklahoma and many other nieces, nephews and friends. His niece Shawn A. Marshall of Moore, Oklahoma was caring for him over the past year while he was ill.
Funeral Services were held on March 27, 2002 at the John M. Ireland Funeral Home & Chapel in Moore, Oklahoma. Graveside services were held at the Highland Memorial Gardens in Des Moines on Saturday, March 30th at 11:00 a.m. with full Military Honors.
Mason Funeral Home in Pleasantville handled local arrangements.
