William Wesley Stoops was born August 20, 1867, and died Thursday January 22, at the age of 80 years, 5 months, and 2 days. He spent most of his life in this community however, during the last years of his life he spent much time visiting his children in Wisconsin.
Mr. Stoops was first united in marriage to Rebecca Cronkhite, of Knoxville who died in 1896. Three children were born to this union, Frank, deceased, Mrs. Agnes Hayes, of Chariton, and Mrs. Amy McCarthy, of Chicago, Ill.
Mr. Stoops was united in marriage in 1906 to Myrtle Nichols, who died in 1922. To this second union were born five children, Mrs. Beatrice Lapp of Waukesha, Wisc., Donald Stoops, of Knoxville, Mrs. Maxine Godfrey of Waukesha, Wisc., Thomas Stoops, of Waukesha, Wisc., Mrs. Francis Redding, of Milan, Ill. Besides the seven children, Mr. Stoops is survived by twenty grandchildren, six great-grandchildren, three sisters, Mrs. William Randal, Mrs. Walter Davis, Mrs. Clifford Allard of Knoxville, one brother, Alvin Stoops.
Funeral services were held Saturday afternoon, at 2 o’clock, from the Bybee & Davis funeral home, conducted by R. D. Norris, pastor of the Apostolic church of Knoxville and burial was made in Graceland cemetery.
