Chris Alan Schakel was born on June 21, 1954 at Knoxville, Iowa. He was one of seven children that were born to Dexter Dwight and Arlene Faye (Rietveld) Schakel. Chris grew up at 2268 Jesup Drive near Pella, Iowa and attended the Pella Public Schools and graduated from Pella Public School. Chris worked at Pella Corporation for 25 years and then was employed at Pella Plastics and Red Rock Rubber until his retirement. In 2010 he and his mother, Arlene Schakel, moved to Knoxville, Iowa where he passed away Thursday evening at his residence, 209 S. Henry Street, at the age of 57 years.

Chris is survived by three children: Angie Laird and (Steve Gordon) of Swan, Iowa, Dustin Schakel, Dan and (Rachel) Schakel all of Knoxville; 7 grandchildren: Stacy Barber, Chrislyn Laird, Samantha Edwards, Hannah, Jacob, Dexter and Evelyn Schakel; his mother, Arlene Schakel of Knoxville; two sisters, Linda and (Larry) Angove of Knoxville and Wendy Schakel of Ottumwa, Iowa, and a brother, Steve (Tina) Schakel of Pleasantville, Iowa. Chris was preceded in death by his father, Dexter Schakel in 2005; a sister, Candie Barger in 1992 and two brothers Mathew Schakel in 1996 and Jeffrey Schakel in 2008.

Chris enjoyed fishing, mushroom hunting and hunting. He was a devoted family man, a great father, a great son, a great brother and enjoyed spending time with his grandkids.

Graveside Services were held Tuesday, January 31, 2012 at 1:30 p.m. at Oakwood Cemetery in Pella, Iowa. For those desiring, memorials may be given for the family of Chris Schake.
