Mrs. EMILY A. CROUCH , a resident of Marion County for the past 49 years , died at the home of her daughter , Mrs. ALLEN ANDERSON , in this city , at 3 O'clock on the morning of Wednesday April 26 , 1905 , aged 78 years , 1 month and 24 days. Death resulted after a long sickness but the final dissolution came as peacefully as sleep to a tired child.Her maiden name was EMILY A. HAYES. She was born in Mason County, West Va. , March 2 , 1827 , and was united in marriage with WILLIAM A. CROUCH on Dec 2 , 1846. Ten years later , in the spring of 1856 , Mr. and Mrs. Crouch and their young family came to this county and settled in Polk township , on the farm now owned by JOHN DEMOSS. They continued to reside in that neighborhood until the time of Mr. Crouch's death , Which occurred June 11 , 1893. Since that time the old lady has made her home with her children.
Mrs. Crouch was stricken with paralysis about two years ago , and for the past year had been unable to speak more then a word or two at a time. She was also badly afflicted with heart trouble , which latter disease was the direct cause of death .
She was able to be up and about on the day prior to her death , however , she had had a serious attack of the heart trouble only three or four days before. She ate supper with the family Tuesday evening and retired at the usual hour. Shortly before midnight she became restless and uneasy and appeared to breathe with great difficulty. Those serious symptoms soon wore away but returned shortly before 2 O'clock . A physician was hastily summoned , but all was over within the hour following.Mr. and Mrs. Crouch reared a family of 10 children , 8 of whom are still living as follows ; CHARLE , ALBERT and SYLVESTER of this city and township ; ARTHUR of Chickasha , Oklahoma ; CLARENCE , of Des Moines ; ELIZA , wife of ANDERSON , of this city and ADDA , wife of HAMPTON JONES , 7 mile southwest of town. The deceased members of the family are B. F. CROUCH and ETTA , wife of S. F. BREES.
Mrs. Crouch was a Christian woman in whom was combined all graces contributed by a sweet disposition and even temper.
All of her acquaintances soon learned to be her warm and firm friends. She had been a member of the Baptist church for more than 50 years and was really and truly " a mother in Isreal " She was a kind and loving parent and fried who was ever mindful of the rights and felling of others.
The funeral services were held at Coal Ridge church on Friday at 1 p.m. conducted by Rev. TEMPLE , of Pella . Interment in Coal Ridge cemetery.
