Mrs. Ellen Whaley died at her home in Knoxville, Sunday, January 17, 1954, at the advanced age of 97 years, 2 months and 13 days.
Ellen Larew, daughter of Mr. and Mrs. John Larew, was born in Clay township, east of Knoxville, near Durham, in 1856, and spent her entire life in Marion county and since 1906 in Knoxville.
The deceased was married in 1875 to John Whaley and to this union five children, three daughters and two sons, were born. The daughters, Alta, Mrs. Sylvia Gregory and Mrs. Hattie Kamerick, are all deceased, Mrs. Gregory and Mrs. Kamerick in the past year. The sons are John Whaley, of Knoxville, and Floyd Whaley, of Milwaukee, Wisc. Besides the children, the deceased is survived by twenty-one grandchildren, two great grandchildren.
Mrs. Bessie Wilson has cared for Mrs. Whaley in her home for the past two years. She was confined to a wheel chair for about six years previous to her death.
Funeral services will be held from the First Presbyterian church in Knoxville this (Thursday) afternoon, at 2 o’clock, by Rev. Roger O. Braaten. Interment will be made in the Graceland cemetery.
