Joy Hondered passed away unexpectedly Tuesday evening, August 16, 2011, at the age of 53 years. Funeral services were held on Saturday, August 20, 2011, at the Van Dyk – Duven Funeral Home in Pella.
Joy Patrice Honderd was the daughter of Johannes and Johanna Struik Honderd. She was born on January 26, 1958, at Story City, Iowa where her parents were living at the time. She and her parents and her younger brother, Kevin Jay, then moved south of Sully, Iowa. They farmed there for two years before moving near Kellogg, Iowa where they farmed for six years. Joy began her elementary education at Kellogg. The family then moved south of Pella, Iowa where they lived until moving west of Pella. Joy graduated from Pella High School in Pella with the Class of 1976 and always received good grades. Joy lived with her parents and worked at the Rolscreen Company in Pella. During this time she also assisted her mother, Johanna, in the operation of the Otley Lunch in Otley, Iowa. On December 20, 1985, her father, Joe, passed away at the age of 76 years. Joy continued to make her home with her mother and began working for the Greyhound Bus Line. Eventually she became an employee of Data Impact Services who had offices in Knoxville, Iowa and Des Moines, Iowa.
Survivors are her brother, Keven Honderd and his wife, Mary, of Oskaloosa, Iowa; one niece, Amanda and her husband, Andy Bolton, two nephews, Joey Honderd and Daniel Honderd, special friends, Bruce and Leta Etter of Williams, Iowa; and several cousins. Joy was preceded in death by her parents, Joe and Johanna Honderd, maternal grandparents, Johannes and Sophia Stam Struik; and paternal grandparents, Rolf and Anna Brunins Honderd.
