Tryntje (Tena) De Haan Hoogendoorn was born on June 26, 1917, to Sander and Tryntje Roos De Haan in Amsterdam, The Netherlands, one of twelve children. She went to be with her Heavenly Father on Monday, May 16, 2011, at the Pella Regional Health Center-Long Term Care at the age of ninety-three.

On May 29, 1941 Tena was united in marriage with Henry Hoogendoorn in the Netherlands. Tena and Henry farmed with Henry's father and during this time five children were born. In 1948 the family immigrated to the United States. They established their first home in Eddyville, Iowa where Henry continued farming with his brother-in-law. A year later they moved to Williamsburg where two more children were born. In 1952 the family rented a farm near Peoria, Iowa. In 1959 they rented a farm near Pella and three years later they were able to purchase a farm north of Pella where they lived until retiring to Pella in 1978.

Tena enjoyed being a homemaker, caring for children and helping on the farm. After retirement and moving to Pella, she worked in the laundry department at Hilltop Manor.

Tena and Henry were charter members of the Faith Christian Reformed Church. Tena was a member of the Ladies Aid. She was an avid gardener, enjoyed visiting the elderly and shut-ins, loved taking care of family and enjoyed their visits. She loved the Lord and shared her faith freely with her family.

Those left to cherish her memory are her children and their spouses: Anne (Marv) Kaluf of De Motte, Indiana, Case and Pat Hoogendoorn of Oak Park, Illinois, Tena and Wayne Vos of Prospect, Oregon, Nancy and George De Vries of Palm Desert, California, Sandi and Ken Vos of Johnson City, Texas, Mary and Art Hoekstra of Kalamazoo, Michigan, and Helena and Ken Tukker of Pella, Iowa; twenty-one grandchildren; eighteen grandchildren in-law; forty-six great-granchildren; two sisters-in-law: Alene De Heer and Carrie Voshart.

Preceding her in death are: her parents, parents-in-law, husband Henry on June 28, 2006; and all her siblings: Wyntje, Gysbert, Roelof, Mink, Ted, Katrien, John, Maurice, Jannie, Sander, and Case. ~ The Des Moines Register, Des Moines, Iowa Thur 19 May 2011.
