Harold Edward Ethell, son of George W. and Matilda M. (Lankford) Ethell, Sr., was born on February 26, 1930, at his parents' home in Marion County near Flagler, Iowa. Harold, a lifelong resident of Marion County, graduated from Attica High School in Attica, Iowa, in 1947. As a teenager he worked on local farms, including a turkey farm, and at the Attica Grocery Store until he went to work at the Maytag Corporation in Newton, Iowa. Harold was united in marriage with Hazel Goemaat in 1950 and to this union three children were born: Steven Eugene, Scott Edwin and Sharon Elaine. They were later divorced. Then in August 1975 he and Sharon Denney were united in marriage at the First Baptist Church in Knoxville, Iowa. Together they raised their five children, Steve, Scott and Sharon Ethell, and Ray and Don Denney. Harold worked for over 41 years at the Maytag Corporation before retiring as a general supervisor in 1989. In his earlier years he enjoyed bowling, hunting and fishing. He especially enjoyed mushroom hunting and raccoon and coyote hunting. He always had a hunting or fishing experience to share! In later years he enjoyed going to the casino, playing cards, trapping and chatting with family and friends. Harold was a longtime member of the First Baptist Church in Knoxville. He passed away peacefully at his home on Tuesday morning, November 20, 2012, at the age of 82 years. Harold is survived by his wife, Sharon Ethell; his three children and their spouses: Steven and Vicky Ethell, Scott and Robyn Ethell, and Sharon and Jeff Wallace, all of Knoxville; two step-sons: Ray Denney of Seattle, Washington, and Don Denney of Knoxville; nine grandchildren: Jennifer Ethell, Nathan Ethell, Nolan Ethell, Blake Ethell, Haley Ethell, Stefanie Ethell, Scott Eric Ethell, Shane Sweitzer, Ryan Sweitzer; three step-grandchildren: Jessica Wallace, Avery Neer and Emery Neer; and three great-granddaughters: Kailan and Evie Ethell and Ellyson Hoch. Harold leaves two brothers and their wives: Ray and Kay Ethell of Des Moines, Iowa, and Larry and Gerry Ethell of Milo, Iowa; two sisters: Leona St eele of Knoxville and Carolyn Hoffman of Urbandale, Iowa; a sister-in-law, Harriet (George) Ethell of Knoxville and a brother-in-law, Dean (Bonnie Ethell) Smith of Des Moines; and many other relatives and friends.

Harold was preceded in death by his parents, George and Matilda Ethell, Sr.; a brother, Harry, who died in infancy, and his brother, George Ethell; and four sisters: Helen Conn, Bonnie Smith, Sylvia"Mae" Randall and Hazel Moore
