Obituary for Kathryn Vermeer Uitermarkt

Kathryn Vermeer Uitermarkt was born on March 25, 1925, at the family home in Dexter, Minnesota. She was one of thirteen children that were born to Gerrit and Hendrice (Bakker) Vanden Bosch. Kathryn moved with her family to northwest Iowa at the age of 4 years and made profession of her faith at a young age.

On June 22, 1943, she was united in marriage with Edward William Vermeer at the Vermeer family home near Hull, Iowa. They were blessed with five children: Bradley Edwin, Paulette Kay, Dwight Evan, Douglas Erwin and Kevin Earl. Kathryn and Edward and their family lived and farmed a small farm near Hull for 16 years following his military discharge.

In April, 1962 the family moved to Pella, Iowa so Edward could pursue greater opportunities for his family. He was employed at Vermeer Manufacturing for a short time and was working at the Rolscreen Company when he passed away unexpectedly September 28, 1982, at his home at the age of 61 years.

Kathryn and Ed had been active members of the Third Reformed Church were Kathryn loved to teach the three year old Sunday School Class. She had worked for several years in the kitchen at Webster Elementary School and following Ed’s death began working at the Dutch Buffet. Kathryn was well known for helping her family, friends and neighbors. She also enjoyed gardening, sewing and quilting.

In September, 1988, she married Gerrit A. Uitermarkt and they enjoyed 5 years of retirement together until he passed away in 1993. Kathryn continued living in Pella and Leighton, Iowa and on Sunday, August 25, 2013, she passed away at Crystal Heights Care Center in Oskaloosa, Iowa at the age of 88 years.

Those who will cherish her memory are five children and their spouses, 8 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren:
Bradley and Connie Vermeer of Las Cruces, New Mexico; Jason and Catherine Ackleson; Thomas, Emma Jennifer and Clayton Wallace, Madelyn, Makayla Paulette and Byron Van Gorp of Pella, Iowa; Eric and Mary Kay Van Gorp; Emma Amy and Mike Rodwell; Makayla, Jenna and Lane
Dwight Vermeer of Pella, Iowa;
Douglas and Shirley Vermeer of Pella, Iowa Jonathan, Tyler Kevin and Judy Vermeer of Hot Springs, Arkansas Monica, Caleb.

Kathryn leaves two step-sons, Alvin Uitermarkt and his wife, Jerri, of Knoxville, Iowa, Bruce (Karen) Uitermarkt of Pella and their families; her youngest brother, Frank Vanden Bosch of LeMars, Iowa; and a host of nieces and nephews. Kathryn was preceded in death by her husband, Edward Vermeer, her husband, Gerrit Uitermarkt; her parents, Gerrit and Hattie Vanden Bosch; parents-in-law, Jacob W. and Cynthia (Te Slaa) Vermeer; her sisters: Alice, Coba, Jennie, Hedy and Janet; her brothers: Bill, Ted, Hank, John, Gerrit and Billy Vanden Bosch; and all her Vermeer sisters-in-law and brothers-in-law.

Kathryn was a former member of the Heartland Reformed Church in Pella and at the time of her death was a member of the Leighton Christian Reformed Church in Leighton.

She will always be remembered as a kind, compassionate, loving and caring mother and grandmother who loved her Lord and Savior and raised her children in a Christian home. She taught them to always trust in God and no matter how difficult situations in life may be, to keep their love, faith and trust in God and He would take care of them.

Funeral Services will be held
Thursday, August 29, 2013 at 11:00 a.m.
Leighton Christian Reformed Church, Leighton, Iowa

Interment will be made in the Oakwood Cemetery at Pella, Iowa

Visitation will be Wednesday afternoon at Van Dyk-Duven Funeral Home

Visitation with family present will be Wednesday from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m.
