Jay Dee Roberts, age 68, of Decatur, Iowa, the son of William Eugene and Kathryn Elizabeth (Beebout) Roberts was born November 16, 1946. He died at Mercy Hospital in Des Moines, Iowa on Wednesday, March 18, 2015.

Jay graduated from Leon High School in 1964. He then started working at various part time jobs including joining the Army Reserves for a few months. Due to health, he was discharged. Then in the mid 1960's, he started driving a truck for Hyman Freightways in Des Moines. He worked construction for a couple of years over that time, but then went back to Hyman's. He retired from the Teamsters Local 147 in 1999.

Jay was married for a few years and was stepfather to two children, Lisa and Dennis. In his free time, Jay enjoyed his mules, horses, and dogs. He always enjoyed trail rides with his team of horses. He also loved sports and watching ball games on television. He loved playing Fantasy Football and working on his computer.

Preceding him in death were his parents and brother, Craig Roberts. Survivors include his brothers, Larry Roberts and wife Betty of St. Charles, Iowa and Daryl Roberts and wife Mary Lynn of Kansas City, Missouri; sister-in-law, Flo Roberts of Winterset, Iowa; nieces and nephews; good friends, Toni Rivas and Richard Kernen of Van Wert, Iowa; and other relatives and many friends.

Visitation will be Saturday, March 21, 2015, at the Slade - O'Donnell Funeral Home in Leon, Iowa from 9:30-11:30 a.m. with a graveside ceremony at 3 p.m. at Gosport Cemetery, Knoxville, Iowa.
