Julianne Ruth Van Houweling was the third of seven children that were born to Marion and Gertrude (Bezemer) Van Houweling. She was born on November 27, 1926, north of Pella, Iowa. Julie, as she was known, graduated from Pella Public High School in 1945.

Julie and Jacob N. Vos met at church and were united in marriage at the First Reformed Church on June 6, 1947. Julie remembered that 1947 was a year of floods and God flooded their marriage with three wonderful boys: Dennis Jay, Robert Joel and Bruce John. Julie remained a very devoted homemaker. She worked for a short time at the Rolscreen Company and the Pella Canning Factory and for 25 years was employed at De Jong Greenhouses. During this time her husband, Jake, was employed in the propane tank industry. Julie retired in 1990 and remained active at church and did tole painting. She loved to entertain and cook and made the best cinnamon rolls. She and Jake appreciated life, a good practical joke, enjoyed playing cards and loved to entertain. Julie faithfully attended to his physical needs while he experienced Parkinson’s Disease until he passed away on October 29, 2003, at the age of 80 years. Julie continued to reside at 700 West First Street in Pella until becoming a resident at the Oskaloosa Care Center in Oskaloosa, Iowa in January, 2010. She accepted the transition move graciously and passed away there on Saturday afternoon, March 2, 2013, at the age of 86 years. Those who will cherish her memory are three sons and their wives, five grandsons and 4 great-grandchildren. They are:
