Billy Jim Hart was born on June 6, 1930, at his parents, William and Emma Maggie (Swank) Hart, home near Pella, Iowa. Their only child and their “do no wrong son” attended the European No. 2 Country School and graduated from Pella Public High School in Pella.

During high school Bill spent a lot of time with his close friend, Robert Vander Heiden, and met Willa Maxine Zickel. They were united in marriage on October 4, 1950, at the First Reformed Church in Pella. In October 1951 he was drafted into the United States Army and served during the Korean War until his discharge in July 1953. Bill and Willa lived all their married lifetime in Pella where they raised their two daughters: Pamela Marie and Sherri Ann. Bill worked as a foreman at Iowa Electric Light and Power for 35 years until he retired in 1985.

He found fulfillment in repairing clocks and his retirement found him on the golf course, fishing or playing cribbage. Bill lived with an asthma condition since he was four years of age and passed away from lung cancer on Sunday afternoon, November 25, 2012, at the Hospice of Pella Comfort House in Pella at the age of 82 years. Bill is survived by his wife, Willa; their two daughters and their families: Pamela Hart of Albia, Iowa and her two children: Erik Vos and his wife, Megan, and his son, Evan William Vos of Albia, Calder Bender and his wife, Sarah, and their two children: Caden and Jackson Bender of Richland, Iowa; Sherri and her husband, Phil Stanley, of Knoxville, Iowa and their three children: Cody Stanley and his wife, Kayla, and his son, Ian Stanley, of Libertyville, Iowa, and twin daughters, Sarah and Emily Stanley, of Knoxville.

Bill leaves two brothers-in-law: Carroll Zickel and his wife, Phyllis, of Pella, and Dean (Beverly Zickel) Vos of Bussey, Iowa; and a sister-in-law, Linda (Zickel) Fisk of Oskaloosa, Iowa.

Bill was preceded in death by his father, William Hart, who passed away on June 11, 1981 at the age of 79 years, his mother, Emma Hart, who passed away at the age of 101 years on February 29, 2008; his parents-in-law, Guy Otis and Antonette Marie (Naaktgeboren) Zickel; a sister-in-law, Beverly Vos and two brothers-in-law, Derald Zickel and Norman Zickel and his wife, Arlene.

Bill was a faithful member of the Van Veen- Van Hemert American Legion Post No. 89 of Pella. He had been a baptized member and professing member of the First Reformed Church in Pella and was currently a member of the Second Reformed Church in Pella. Bill will be remembered as being a good husband, a provider in every aspect for his family, and having a fun loving personality.

Funeral Services will be held Friday, November 30, 2012 at 10:30 a.m. Second Reformed Church, Pella, Iowa Interment will follow in the Oakwood Cemetery at Pella, Iowa Military rites by the American Legion Post No. 89 of Pella, Iowa

Visitation will begin after 1:00 p.m. Thursday in the Gathering Space at the Second Reformed Church where the family will be present Thursday from 6:30 to 8:00 p.m.

Memorials may be designated for the Hospice of Pella Comfort House in Pella, Iowa. ~ The Van Dyk-Duven Funeral Home, Pella, Iowa.
