Agnes Anna Vos was a daughter of John W. and Agnes Anna Sjaardema Vos. She was born on May 29, 1920, at Sully, Iowa. Agnes attended the Bunker Hill Country School, the Sully Christian Grade School in Sully and graduated from Pella Public High School in Pella, Iowa in 1937. At an early age Agnes pursued her typing and shorthand skills while attending Greggs Business College in Chicago, Illinois. Upon completion she returned to Pella, Iowa where she taught Business Class at the newly organized Pella Christian High School.

On July 2, 1944, she was united in marriage with John Brummel and to this union three children were born: Mark Allen, Janeth Rae and Rosann. Agnes followed her husband throughout his military career during World War II to non-foreign military posts. Because she excelled in stenography and typing she was always able to find employment. Following his discharge they moved to Knoxville, Iowa where she was employed as a secretary at the Veterans Administration Hospital. Agnes and John lived the remainder of their married life in Denver, Colorado. Agnes was affiliated with the Henry Ham Insurance Agency for 13 years and then did volunteer work for Christian Living Fellowship until she was 72 years of age.

During this time Agnes felt called by the Lord to change her name to Dorcas King. Dorcas remained a very resourceful person and continued to live in Denver, sharing the message of Jesus Christ with others. The church and her family always remained the most important part of her life. In 2004 she decided to move to Pella, Iowa for health reasons.

On Tuesday, September 7, 2010, she passed away at the West Ridge Nursing and Rehab Center in Knoxville, Iowa where she was cared for since June, 2009. Dorcas attained the age of 90 years.

She is survived by her three children and their mates, four grandchildren and one great-grandson. They and their families are: Mark Brummel and his wife, Joanne of Strasburg, Colorado and their two children: Brooke (Brummel) and Jeff Rau, Luke Brummel; Janeth and Daniel Crouch of Strasburg, Colorado and their two children: Clayton Crouch, Chase Crouch and his son, Brian Kline; Rosann Woods and David Wold of Mill Valley, California. Of her original family Dorcas leaves three sisters: Wilma Louisa (Ronald) Blanke of Pella, Sib (Sibbellina Georgiana) and her husband, Harold Van Loozenoord of Sun City, Arizona, Emma Joan (Duane) Vander Linden of Pella; and a sister-in-law, Jerre (Bill) Vos of Greeley, Colorado.

Dorcas was preceded in death by her parents, John W. and Agnes Vos; her two brothers: Donald Vos and his wife, Dorothy, Wilbur John (Bill) Vos; the following two sisters: Clazina (Kay) Paris, Catherine Van Waardhuizen; and two brothers-in-law: Ronald Blanke and Duane Vander Linden.

Dorcas enjoyed traveling and playing games with her family. One of the most admirable traits her children remember about their Mom was that she never made a negative remark about anyone, period!
