Jerry Weyers was born on January 25, 1943, in Oskaloosa, Iowa. He was the youngest of three children that were born to Bert and Eva Johanna Rouwenhorst Weyers.

Jerry graduated from Webster School and attended Pella Public High School in Pella, Iowa.

On June 7, 1963, he was united in marriage with Dorothy June McMurray at St. Anthony’s Catholic Church in Knoxville, Iowa.

At an early age Jerry began driving truck and then began working at the Rolscreen Company in Pella in 1961. Jerry was employed at the Pella Corporation for 37 years until he took disability in 1998.

Jerry and Dorothy enjoyed riding motorcycles and camping and for several years Jerry was a trapshooter.

In June, 2008, Jerry became a resident at the Griffin Nursing Center in Knoxville, Iowa. On June 30, 2009, he became very ill and was admitted to the Pella Regional Health Center in Pella where he was cared for until being transferred to the Hospice of Pella Comfort House where he passed away on Friday morning, July 3, 2009 at the age of 66 years, 5 months and 7 days.

Jerry is survived by his faithful wife of 46 years, Dorothy June; his sister, Junella (Howard) Halverson of Iowa City, Iowa; a step-sister, Juanita (Richard) King of Des Moines, Iowa; and his sister-in-law, Norma (Harry) Weyers of Pella.

Jerry and Dorothy had no children of their own and their little companion was their dog, Nellie; but they thought a lot of their niece and nephews: Jeana (Weyers) and Paul Schuring of Pella, Mike and Nancy Halverson of Friendswood, Texas, Craig and Norma Halverson of Newton, Iowa, Brad and Becky Weyers of Sperry, Iowa. Their family also included the following great-nephews and great-nieces: Bret and Todd Schuring, Katie (Halverson) and Sean Adams, Kurtis Halverson, Amanda (Halverson) and Zack Mefford, Chris Halverson, Ben Weyers, Joann (Weyers) and Elias Gutierrez; great-great-nieces: Hannah Halverson, Kilie Adams, and Nevaeh Gutierrez; great-great-nephew, Seth Adams; and God child, Michaela Wilcox of Mufresboro, Tennessee.

Jerry was preceded in death by his his parents: his mother, Eva Weyers, who died on July 27, 1957; his father, Bert Weyers and his step-mother, Florence (Enyart) Weyers who were both killed in an auto accident on January 4, 1967; his parents-in-law, George and Alice Stoffeler McMurray; his brother, Harry Weyers; a step-brother, Clyde Enyart; and his brother-in-law, Howard Halverson.

Jerry was baptized at the First Christian Church in Knoxville, Iowa on January 16, 1983 and was affiliated with Federated Fellowship Church in Pella, Iowa. He will be missed by his family and many, many friends.
