Stanley Clarence “Rusty” Pickle Jr. was born August 18, 1970 in Healdsburg, CA. He was one of four children born to Kathleen Ione Dickerson and Stanley Clarence Pickle. Rusty graduated from Clear Creek High School in League City, TX in 1988. He entered the US Army and served his country for 2 years. Rusty moved to Iowa in 1999, where he attended DMACC in Ankeny to pursue a degree as an IT tech. After graduation Rusted was employed by Mediacom in West Des Moines.

Rusty passionately enjoyed various Renaissance Festivals, computer and video games, and spending quality time with his friends and family. He often remarked that his friends were his family.

Tragically God took Rusty away from us all too soon. He left our lives on Thursday, April 23, 2009 in Des Moines, Iowa at the age of 38 years 8 months and 5 days.

Preceding him in death were his maternal grandfather, David B. Dickerson; his uncle, David L. Dickerson; his paternal grandmother, Mina E. “Pat” Pickle; and his paternal grandfather, Robert J. Pickle Sr.

Those left to mourn his passing are his parents and their spouses, Kathleen (Donald) Best of Attica and Stanley C. (Gail) Pickle Sr. of Lafollette, TN; his maternal grandmother, Gladys E. Dickerson of Knoxville; three siblings, Barbara A. Pickle and Jason A. Pickle of Portland, OR and Kristi E. Pickle of League City, TX; one nephew, Steven J. Thompson of League City, TX and his fiancé’, Rachel Giesler of Norwalk.

Rusty felt passionately about many things, and was eagerly working towards the goal of bringing Amtgard to Des Moines. His passion was contagious; he single-handedly generated a small army of friends who are still ready to gather together with foam-covered swords and do battle!

Many of Rusty’s values were expressed on his blog at www.chainmailmadness.blogspot.org .

A Gathering of Friends and Family to Commemorate the Life of Rusty was held on Tuesday, April 28, 2009 at Williams Funeral Home. A committal service will be held at a later date at Houston National Cemetery in Houston, TX.
