Hall, Wanda I. (Storm) 1919-2009

Wanda Irene Hall was born September 23, 1919 in Tipperary, Iowa. She was one of twelve children born to Gladys F. Umbenhower and Jobe Henry Storm. Wanda grew up in the coal mining area in Lucas County, Iowa.

Wanda was united in marriage to Clifford McClellan Hall on March 28, 1939 in Russell, Iowa by Rev. A. E. Beals. To this union three children were born. The family farmed in the Woodburn, Derby and Columbia areas. In 1959 the family moved to Knoxville where Clifford was employed at the VA Medical Center.

Wanda worked at the Continental Over-all Factory, the Stadium Drive-In, Collins Hospital and other restaurants as a cook and baker. After Clifford’s death in 1994, Wanda returned to work at the Knoxville Workforce Center until her retirement in 2006.

Wanda enjoyed fishing, visiting casinos, mushroom hunting, spending time socializing with family and friends, shopping and taking trips with her daughter, Anna.

Wanda Irene Hall passed away on Tuesday, February 17, 2009 at the Iowa City Medical Center at the age of 89 years, 4 months and 24 days.

Preceding her in death were her parents; husband in 1994; son, Dean Hall in 2004; and grandson, Robert Dean Hall in 2008; three sisters; and three brothers.

Those left to mourn her passing are two daughters and their husbands, Anna and Tom Smith and Wilma and Ronald Shives of Knoxville; one daughter-in-law, Marilyn Hall of Lake View, IA; 9 grandchildren, Jim (Jo Ann) Hall of Grand Junction, Lori (Brian) Auen of Brandon, FL, Debby (Tracy)of Knoxville, Randy (Marcia) Shives of Knoxville, Denny (Cindy) Shives of Newton, Kimmy (Donni) Shives of Knoxville, Andy (Kelly) Shives of Knoxville, Chad (Rebecca) Prairie Du Chien, WI, Tom (Nicolle) Smith of Knoxville; 20 great-grandchildren, Kari, Robbie, Julie, Amanda, Layla, Jacob, Josh, Alexandrea, Isabele Jessie, Heather, Kelly, Lacey, Samantha, CodyRay, Madysen, Cutter, Cody, Hunter and Ty; 8 great-great-grandsons, Aaron, Zach, Nathan, Anthony, Austin, Lucas, Garrett and Tyler; 1 sister, Jo Ann Davidson of Chariton; 4 brothers, Charles (Lova) Storm of Knoxville, Ronald (Wilma) Storm of Knoxville, Floyd (Della) Storm of Chariton, LaVern (Connie) Storm of Knoxville; 2 sisters-in-law, Georgia Goben of Chariton, Guyletha Storm of Chariton, Cleo Storm of Knoxville, Charlene McKinley of Chariton, Beatrice Aalbers of Chariton, Florence (Charles) Thompson of Colorado; brother-in-law, Marvin (Mary) Hall of Oskaloosa.

Services were held on Saturday, February 21, 2009 at Williams Funeral Home with Pastor Neil Montz officiating. Interment was in Graceland Cemetery.

Musical selections were “In The Garden” and “Wind Beneath My Wings”, a CD by Gospel Gold Singers; and “Amazing Grace”, a CD by The Statler Brothers. Casket bearers were Donnie Fry, Jim Hall, Andy Shives, Randy Shives, Chad E. Smith, Tom D. Smith and the Late Bob Hall. Honorary casket bearers were Otis Day, Charles Goodwin, James A. McCann and the Late Jim Roush.
