Darrell Lee Dieleman was the first of two children that were born to Marion Will and Treva Mae Buitenwerf Dieleman. He was born on December 22, 1940, at his parent’s home near Sully, Iowa. Darrell began his elementary education at the Elm Grove Country School and graduated from the Lacey High School at Lacey, Iowa with the Class of 1959. During high school Darrell was an accomplished pitcher on the Lacey High School baseball team.

Following his high school graduation, Darrell attended the American Institute of Business in Des Moines, Iowa for two years where his main course of study was accounting.

On October 20, 1960, Darrell was united in marriage with Donna Joyce Van Weelden and to this union three children were born: Kimberly Joy, Michael Lee and Kristy Linn. Following his marriage Darrell was employed at the International Farm Store in Pella, Iowa as a bookkeeper. He then farmed north of Pella until the mid 1960’s, when he relocated to a farm west of Lacey near his parents. In 1977 Darrell began work on the assembly line at Vermeer Manufacturing Company in Pella. Through his productivity and reliability he worked his way up to the position of Parts Center Manager.

On December 28, 1991, he was united in marriage with Beth M. Bruxvoort at the Little Brown Church in Nashua, Iowa.

Then in 1997 Darrell left Vermeer Manufacturing to become co-owner of Ulrich’s Meat Market and later was employed at Van Haaften Plumbing & Heating in Pella.

In 2005 Darrell returned to Vermeer Manufacturing in the Yards & Grounds Department where he was given the “Expect the Best” Award last year for his glorious flower beds. This spring you can drive by the plants to enjoy the 12,000 tulips Darrell had planted. His recent years have been spent on an acreage north of Pella where he and Beth have both enjoyed taking walks with their beloved chocolate lab, Ginger.

Darrell had an aortic valve replacement in 1988 and three years later suffered a stroke. He recovered fully and was able to resume a life complete with golf, hunting and fishing. He was blessed with good health until March of this year when he was hospitalized with a blood clot.

Darrell entered the Iowa Methodist Medical Center in Des Moines, Iowa on Tuesday evening, April 8, 2008, and passed away there the following morning, April 9, 2008, at the age of 67 years, 3 months and 17 days.

Those who will cherish his memory are his wife, Beth M. Dieleman of Pella; his three children and their spouses and six grandchildren. They and their families are: Kimberly J. and Randy Smith of Marshalltown, Iowa and their two children: Megan Nicole and Zachary Simon Smith; Michael L. and Ann (Wagner) Dieleman of Kansas City, Missouri and their two children: Matthew David and Grace Elizabeth Dieleman; Kristy L. and David Trzeciak of Polk City, Iowa and their two sons: Jack David and Connor Michael Trzeciak. Darrell leaves his parents, Marion and Treva Dieleman and his sister, Sherry Lanphier of Pella, Iowa; and his three nephews and their wives: Douglas and Becky Netten, Scott and Jodee Netten, Kelly and Julie LaFollette; his parents-in-law, Marvin and Betty Bruxvoort of Pella; a sister-in-law, Carol and her husband Tim Bruxvoort of Waverly, Iowa along with three brothers-in-law: John Bruxvoort of Pella, Gregg Bruxvoort and his wife, Joan of Denver, Colorado, Eric Bruxvoort and his wife, Trish of Pella; as well as many nieces and nephews including special nieces: Lisa (Mike) Beatty and Kari (James) Henderson.

Darrell was preceded in death by a sister-in-law, Lori (John) Bruxvoort and a great-niece, Lorynn Beatty.

Darrell was an active, faithful member of Third Church in Pella. In recent years he became involved with the World Gospel Mission and had made two inspirational trips to Argentina to assist Christian communities in Cordoba and Salta. Had it not been for health restrictions, a third trip was planned for this year. The Lord had different plans.

For those desiring memorials may be given for World Gospel Missions
