Veenstra, Henry 1923-2007

Henry Veenstra, son of Henry L. and Dorthea M. (Groenendyk) Veenstra, was born December 4, 1923 in Bussey, Iowa. He passed away, Sunday, February 25, 2007 at Heritage Center in Newton, Iowa at the age of 83 years. Henry lived in Des Monies and Knoxville before moving to Newton in the early 1990's.

Henry worked in the civil service at the Veteran's Administration for 20 years.

Henry was a member of the Christian Reformed Church.

He served his country in the U.S. Army. Henry enjoyed playing the organ and played for the Christian Reformed Church in Des Moines. He also liked to travel, and especially enjoyed visiting the Netherlands. Henry spent several winters in Texas.

Those left to cherish his memory are his nephews and nieces: Delores Hoogewerf; Ken (and Jan) Veenstra; Wilbur (and Carolyn) Veenstra; Lester (and Katrina) Veenstra; Marie (and Francis) Scheibout; Richard (and Chris) Veenstra; Neala Veenstra; and Carol Ann (and Ward) Bailey. A sister-in-law, Marjorie Veenstra.

Those proceeding him in death are his parents; sister, Marie Veenstra; 3 brothers, Lambert, Ben, and Herman Veenstra; and a brother in infancy.

Burial was at Evergreen Cemetery in rural Leighton, Iowa.

Memorials to Hospice of Jasper County may be left at the Wallace Family Funeral Home.
