Carl Rawson Mitchel was born on July 5, 1913 at the home of his parents north of Pella, Iowa. He was the oldest of five children that were born to Oz L. and Mary Elsie Russell Mitchel. Carl attended the Sandridge country grade school north of Pella and completed the eighth grade. As a young man Carl worked at the CCC camps.

On August 12, 1939, he was united in marriage with Anna Breen at Princeton, Missouri. To this union one daughter was born, Carolyn Joyce on March 9, 1940.

Following their marriage Carl worked for 15 years as a truck driver for Bakker and Rus. He then became an employee of Vermeer Manufacturing, shortly after its inception and worked there for 27 years, retiring in 1980. Following their retirement they enjoyed traveling throughout the United States.

They became charter members of the Church of the Nazarene in Pella. Anna passed away on November 1, 1991.

Carl and Anna had been lifelong friends with Henry and Alberta Naaktgeboren. Alberta had also lost her spouse, she and Carl shared their losses together, growing in friendship. On October 30, 1993, Carl and Alberta were united in marriage at the Church of the Open Bible in Pella, where they remained faithful members.

Carl passed away on February 17, 2007 at the Hospice of Pella Comfort House. He attained the advanced age of 93 years, 7 months and 12 days.

Carl is survived by his wife Alberta Jelena (Bogaards) Naaktgeboren Mitchel, who continues to reside at Vriendschap Village in Pella; his daughter, and her family, along with Alberta's childrens families.

Of Carl's original family he leaves his brother, Charlie Mitchel currently of Knoxville, Iowa, and his sister-in-law, Elizabeth Mitchel of Pella. Carl was preceded in death by: his wife Anna; his parents; his siblings, Walter and his wife Dorothy Mitchel, Hopkins Mitchel, and Susan and her husband Robert Acord and his sister-in-law, Helen (Charlie) Mitchel.

Carl made profession of his faith in 1957 and lived his life on earth walking hand in hand with his Lord and Saviour through all his trials and joys.
