Robert "Bob" Finstad Wilson was born on Dec. 4, 1923, in Pilot Mound, Iowa. His parents were Thora Finstad and Dewy Wilson. In 1946 Bob married Dora Mae Chance. To this union three children were born. After Dora's death, Bob met and married Karen B. Van Zee on July 30, 1983.

Bob was a career United States Air Force veteran. He served during World War II, the Korean Conflict and the Vietnam Conflict. He retired after 23 years. Bob served at Crane Naval Ammunition Depot as well as various air force bases throughout the United States and over seas. For many years he managed the VFW. Bob handled the food service for five years at St. Jude Children's Hospital. When one of the kids did not eat well or wanted a special treat, Bob would willingly make a hamburger, milk shake or whatever would please the child. Bob always had a special place in his heart for St. Jude's. After his retirement, Bob settled in Knoxville.

Bob was an avid fisherman. He also enjoyed camping and the outdoors. Bob spent many hours doing woodworking and gardening. Everyone remembers his gorgeous flower beds.

Robert Finstad Wilson passed away on March 22, 2007, at the Pella Regional Health Center at the age of 83.

Preceding Bob in death were his parents, first wife, Dora Mae and three brothers.

Survivors include his wife of 23 years, Karen Wilson of Knoxville; three children and their spouses, Cliff and Joyce Wilson of Knoxville, Cathy and Arnie May of Paris, Tenn. and Robert Jr. and Kathy Wilson of Harvey; 1 step-son and his wife, Tim and Jodi VerMeer of Knoxville; nine grandchildren; six great-grandchildren and one sister, Beverly Sellers of Stacyville and many nieces and nephews.

A Celebration of Life was held on March 26 at the New Covenant Church with Pastor Craig Bex officiating.

Interment was in Graceland Cemetery. The United States Air Force Casualty Assistance Corp provided military honors and acted as casket bearers.

Memorials in honor of Mr. Wilson may be made to St. Jude Children's Hospital.

Williams Funeral Home handled the arrangements.
