Lester (Les) Joel Oliver, 84, died Nov. 8, 2006, at Veterans Hospital, Fresno Calif. Visitation services were held the week of November 13, 2006 at Hadley's San Isador Chapel, Farmersville Calif. with graveside services and burial on Nov. 17, at Visalia District Cemetery, Visalia CA.

Les was born on Sept. 30, 1922, in Knoxville. Les grew up, lived, and worked most of his life in the Knoxville, Rhodes and Newton area. Les proudly served his country in WW II as a U. S. Army infantryman. As a member of the Newton community, Les was a member of Sacred Heart Catholic Church, Knights of Columbus, United Auto Workers Union Local #997 and a retired Maytag Company employee. Les moved to Visalia, Calif. in 1996 following the death of his wife Mary (Avila) Oliver to be closer to a son.

Les is survived by his son Kenneth (Joan) Oliver and grandson Lester Oliver of Visalia, Calif. a host of step-children and step-grandchildren in Newton and Visalia, Calif. and many additional family members in the Knoxville area.

Les was preceded in death by his parents, his wife Mary (Avila) Oliver, his son William (Bill) Oliver, and companion Veda (Visalia, Calif.).
