GEORGE ZIMMERMAN DIED LAST FRIDAY
George William Zimmerman was born May 6, 1859 at Troutville, Penn., eldest son of Godfrey and Sarah Katherine Zimmerman.
In the spirit of the pioneer he went to Kansas where he met and married Sarah Emily Locke of Marysville, Iowa, March 8, 1887 at Garden city Kans. and they homesteaded together, later returning to Pennsylvania.
To this union were born 5 children of whom three preceded him in death.
In the fall of 1904 he came to Monroe county settling the following spring on a farm about 5 miles south of Lovilia, where they lived until he retired and bought a home in town about 28 years ago.
George, as he was affectionately called by all Lovilia, served several years as town marshal of Lovilia, Iowa, and before that as township road supervisor, always interested in community welfare.
Mrs Zimmerman went to be with her lord, July 6, 1919, and was buried from the Lovilia Methodist church, as was also their son Gilmer some years before.
Mr. Zimmerman had recently moved to Bussey when his home was destroyed by fire, to be near some of his children, and passed away there on Friday, March 14, at the home of his granddaughter Mrs. Farris Southern at the age of 81 years and 9 months.
He is survived by two daughters, Mrs Katherine Chance Widener of Chariton and Mrs, Millard Cairns of Decatur, ILL, 8 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren. George made many friends in this community.
Funeral services were held Monday afternoon at 2 o'clock in the Lovilia Methodist church in charge of the Rev. J.B. Pooley, the pastor, and Rev. Millard Cairns of Decatur, IL. Burial was made in the Lovilia cemetery.
