Leonard P. Langstraat 1921-1993

Leonard was born in Pella, Iowa on July 6, 1921, the son of Peter and Minnie Kool Langstraat. He spent his early years in the Pella area and received his high school education there.

Leonard served with the United States Army during WWII.

He married Lela Jarman on January 18, 1945 in Oskaloosa, Iowa. They lived their entire married lives in the Mahaska and Marion County area. Leonard worked for the Veterans Hospital in Knoxville for 33 years, retiring in 1983. He also worked as a farm hand during this same time.

He was a member of the First Reformed Church of Knoxville and was also a member of the Iowa National Guard for 30 years.

Leonard died on Friday, October 29, 1993 at his home in Knoxville at the age of 72 years, 3 months and 24 days.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by one grandson, Dustin John Kendall.

He is survived by his wife of Knoxville; four sons, Peter and his wife, Carol of Knoxville, Tom of Portland, Oregon, Jim of Iowa City, Iowa and Steve of Knoxville; three daughters, Mrs. John (Laurie) Kendall of Bussey, Iowa, Patricia Langstraat of Des Moines, Iowa and Beth Langstraat of Knoxville; three brothers, Tony of Pella and Henry and Wilbur, both of New Sharon, Iowa; two sisters, Mrs. Marion (Agnes) Roorda of Pella and Mrs. Lloyd (Anna Mae) Williams of New Sharon; six grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and many other relatives and friends.
