Agnes Mary Huyser was born on June 15, 1902 in the Chester neighborhood south of Sully, Iowa. She was the sixth child born to Willem and Cornelia Vander Wilt Huyser. Agnes attended country grade school in this vicinity. On October 15, 1924, she was united in marriage with Floris J. De Jong at Sully and to this union three daughters were born: Elizabeth Marie, Cornelia and Lucille. Agnes and Floris lived on his parents farm south of Sully all their married life. Floris farmed there all his working life and passed away October 1, 1985. Following his death, Agnes moved to Hilltop Manor South at Pella, iowa in December of that year. She enjoyed the remainder of her life there. On Friday morning, March 20, 1998, she passed away there unexpectedly while tatting in her chair. Agnes enjoyed this pastime very much and provided her family with many of these remembrances. She attained the age of 95 years, nine months and five days. Agnes is survived by her three daughters and their husbands: Elizabeth and Ivan Renaud of Pella, Iowa; Cornelia and Donald Den Adel of Pella; Lucille and George Sjaardema of Reasnor, Iowa; and 14 grandchildren. They and their spouses are: Lanson and Leslie Renaud, Kevin and Marla Renaud, Karna and Doyle Ver Ploeg, Lorna and Jerry Elscott; Corliss and Charles Hareng, Judith and Gerald Roose, Kayla and Chasity Goben, Harlan and Charon Den Adel; Lucinda and Kenneth Broadway, Verle Sjaardema, Eugene and Marla Sjaardema, Georgia and Dan Evenhouse, Linda Sjaardema, Dennis and Carrie Sjaardema. Agnes's family has continued to grow to include 30 great-grandchildren, four step-great grandchildren, four great-great-grandchildren and one step-great-great-grandchild. She was the last surviving member of her original family and leaves just two sisters-in-law: Evelyn (William) Huyser of Pella, Iowa and Johanna (John) Eysink of Sully, Iowa. Preceding her in death besides her husband, Floris, were her parents; her three brothers: Arthur, Gerrit and William Huyser; and her four sisters: Jennie De Cook, Nellie Van Der Pol, Lena De Jong and Rosetta Eysink. Agnes made profession of her faith at an early age at the First Reformed Church in Sully, Iowa, where she was member for many years. In 1987, she transferred her membership to the Third Reformed Church in Pella, Iowa. Agnes enjoyed gardening and in later years spent most of her time quilting and doing handwork.
