Annie Gertrude De Penning was born on January 24, 1912, in Jasper County near Killduff, Iowa. She was the first of seven children that were born to the late John and Mabel Lillian Hess De Penning.

Annie received a grade school education at the Andreas Country Grade School. There was an automobile accident in their neighborhood when Annie was a young girl and when she was there a young lad, Louie James Schippers, had driven his 1930 Black Chevrolet Roadster with orange wire wheels to the site of the accident.

Annie and Louie became acquainted and were united in marriage on February 26, 1935, in the parsonage of the First Reformed Church in Pella, Iowa. To this union three children were born: Keith Norman who was stillborn on November 29, 1939, David Leroy who was born on December 7, 1940 and Phyllis Ruth who was born on August 24, 1947.

Following their marriage, Annie and Louie continued to live with his parents, William and Mae Raymie Schippers, on their farm until 1941. They began farming on their own and did so until 1960 when they moved into Pella. Annie was a devoted homemaker and they made their home at 220 Carson Street until moving into Fairhaven East in December of 2001.

In November of 2002 Louie became a resident in the Sheltered Care Unit at the Pella Regional Health Center where he passed away on October 7, 2003 at the age of 95 years. Annie continued to reside at Fairhaven East until becoming a resident at Friendschaap Village in Pella in August of 2005.

Annie enjoyed her residence there and passed away Tuesday evening, August 1, 2006, at the Hospice of Pella Comfort House following a short stay due to an aneuryism. She attained the age of 94 years, 6 months and 7 days.

Those who will cherish her sewing skills, remember her enjoyment in gardening, canning and reading and her love for gospel music are her two children, four grandchildren and one great-grandchild. They and their families are: David L. Schippers and his wife, Shirley of Lynnville, Iowa and their two children: Mindy Schippers and her daughter, Brooke Ashley White of Lansing, Kansas, Todd Schippers and his wife, Teresa of Grinnell, Iowa; Phyllis R. (Van Dyke) Ditch and her husband, Jeffrey of Anamosa, Iowa and her two daughters: Jenni Harksen and her husband, Derek of Rock Island, Illinois and Angie Van Dyke of Rochester, Minnesota. Of her original family, Annie leaves the following members: Nellie (De Penning) and Ira Veldhuizen of Oskaloosa, Iowa; Evelyn (De Penning) and Arthur De Cook of Pella; Wallace and Clara De Penning of Des Moines, Iowa; Leona (Gerald) De Penning of Pella; and Betty (Clarence) De Penning of Des Moines. Annie was preceded in death by her husband of 68 years, Louie; her infant son, Keith Norman; her parents, John and Mabel De Penning; her sister, Margaret and her husband, Paul Kiser; and two brothers: Clarence L. De Penning and Gerald J. De Penning.

Annie was baptized as an infant at the Bethel Reformed Church near Pella. She made profession of her faith at the Killduff Methodist Church near Killduff. For many years Annie had been a faithful member of the First Reformed Church in Pella.

For those desiring memorials may be designated for Hospice of Pella.
