Truman, Verl Marvin, Sr. 1918-2006

Verl Marvin Truman Sr. was born on July 10, 1918, in Lucas. He was one of six children born to Elma Marie Boston and George H. Truman. Verl graduated from Lucas High School.

During World War II, Verl served in the United States Coast Guard. He was involved in military campaigns in the South Pacific.

On Aug. 14, 1944, Verl married Mary Lucille Turner in St. Louis, Mo. To this union one son, Verl Marvin Truman Jr. was born. Verl and his son farmed together in Franklin and Dallas Townships in Marion County, White Breast Township in Warren County and in Lucas County.

Verl's family and friends meant the world to him. He loved his son and grandchildren dearly. Verl was a member of the Lacona VFW and American Legion. He attended St. John's Lutheran Church in Melcher. Verl died on April 29, 2006, at the Osceola Nursing and Rehabilitation Center at the age of 87.

Family members who preceded him in death were his parents; wife; son; granddaughter, Suzanne Truman; three brothers, Cecil, John and George Truman and one sister, Betty Truman Hoch.

His survivors include one daughter-in-law, Diana Truman of Osceola; two grandchildren; one great-grandson and one sister, Mima Louise Truman Hill of Rogers, Ark. Funeral services were held on May 2 at Williams Funeral Home in Knoxville with Pastor Randall Cormeny officiating.

Interment was in Greenwood Cemetery. Military honors were provided by the Baty-Tucker American Legion Post # 168, John Meyers VFW Post # 3519 and the United States Coast Guard Casualty Assistance Corp. Memorials in memory of Mr. Truman may be given to St. John's Lutheran Church in Melcher.
