GREGORIE

Pella Advertiser – Saturday – This morning John Gregorie, who lives with his mother in South Pella, was found cold and still in death in his bed. He was up town yesterday and was well and hearty, and nothing seemed to be the matter last night when he retired at the usual hour, but this morning when his mother went to arouse him, no response came and upon making an examination it was found that he had been dead for some hours. Many think that it was suicide but no one knows why such a step as this should be resorted to as he was only about 24 years old and was just entering into the prime of his life. His mother is bowed in grief over the unexpected death of her son. The young man had always seemed in good spirits and no cause can be given for taking his own life, as it seems at the time of this writing. He is a brother to our fellow townsman, Wm. Gregorie. In all probability a coroner’s inquest will be held sometime today to act on the case.

Later facts in the case show that he committed suicide by a note being found addressed to his mother stating that he had become tired of life and took this method for relief.
